Bite Me (Bitten #1) by C.C. Wood

Bite Me (Bitten Book 1)

Synopsis:

I had the perfect life; an awesome job in advertising, a gorgeous high rise apartment, and a flirtation with the guy down the hall. Then it all came crashing down. Two months later I was a cocktail waitress living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. I had also developed a serious ‘men suck’ attitude.

That all changed the night I met the beautiful and enigmatic Conner Savage. But there was just one little problem…he said he was a vampire. Figures a man that hot would be batshit crazy. Or so I thought. It didn't take me long to realize that Conner wasn't a nut job and that I was addicted to him.

With every moment we spent together he drew me deeper into his world and the supernatural culture in which he lived.

Now I had a choice: the vampire I craved or a normal life. Couldn't be easier, right?

Review:

After reading a short in the Shiver anthology from C.C. Wood I was intrigued. I wanted to read the rest of the story and see what happened with the characters from that story. Well that book just came out recently so I thought before reading it I would go back and start the series from the beginning. Bite Me is the first story in the Bitten series and I was hoping it would be a great read. I am not that into vampire stories honestly, I got a little burnt out on them and most of them are just meh, but I was hoping this one would be better. Unfortunately for the first 60% or 70% of the book I kept thinking I have read this story before. It was driving me crazy as I knew I hadn't, but I couldn't figure out why it felt so familiar. Thankfully it did change and become different, but it was just an okay read for me.

Donna (which btw the name did not fit the character for me. Whenever anyone would say her name I would think who? Oh wait, the main character, the one they are speaking to...I don't know why. Usually I don't have an issue with names, but Donna just didn't work for me for some reason. Oh well) is a waitress. One night she gets attacked and saved by sexy Conner. Conner who is a vampire. The story is told only from Donna's point of view and it was a bit of a mess for me. I didn't understand her. She was always all over the place and didn't make a lot of sense to me. It is like she has crazy mood swings or something and I am not sure why. I didn't understand her thinking most of the time as she would change her mind and go back and forth between things. Really something was just off with her for me. She didn't seem realistic to me at all.

I didn't really see the connection between Donna and Conner either. They like having sexy time, but even that I didn't see. I didn't see the attraction for some reason. So that didn't even work for me. It was a strange read. I didn't feel like there was a lot of substance to it, and I didn't even enjoy the sexy times. Oh well. I'm not sure if I will read more of the series as this was just meh.
