Behind your back (Behind Your Back #1) by Chelsea M. Cameron

Behind Your Back
Available on
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Goodreads

Synopsis:

To get to him, I need to use her.
I’ll play her like a violin and have her falling in love with me before she even knows what’s happening.
It will be easy. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.
She’s just a girl.
A tool to get what I want.
When I’m done with her I won’t think twice about walking away.
At least, that was what I thought.
Until I met her.

Review:

I loved the Fall and Rise series by this author, so when I saw this book I was intrigued. A guy that needs to lead a girl on, is playing her for his own reasons, but ends up falling for her? Sounds good. Only...it was disappointing. I kept looking to see if this was really the same author. It was so very different from the Fall and Rise series, the writing, the characterization, everything, and not in a good way. I thought well maybe this was the authors first books or something, but no it came out after those. I don't really know what happened with this one, but it missed the mark. I only kept reading it after 50% to see what would happen as I knew there would be a twist, only you don't find out much. Must read book two for that, so I suppose I will never know.

Behind Your Back is the story of Quinn/Sylas and Saige. Quinn is an assumed name as he works with some friends doing some not quite legal stuff. His mom was taken from him by some bad guys and him and his friends are trying to take guys like that down. They only target bad men, guys who use their power and influence for human trafficking and drugs and stuff. At least that is what I gathered from this book. It is never really explicitly explained what they are doing, but it could have been fun. The problem? This story is told from Quinn's point of view and I couldn't connect with him at all. It was kind of boring, not much happened, and the story didn't make me care. I know he has problems, he told me, but...it just wasn't good.

And Saige? She is the daughter of their current target. Quinn is supposed to get close to her so they can get dirt on the dad and take him down. Only he falls for her apparently. He has never had that happen before, but just like everything else I didn't see it. I was told he fell for her, but it didn't work. I couldn't connect with any of the characters or situations so it was just not a very good read. I was at least expecting some kind of surprise at the end, but I got there and thought yep. Just as I thought. Why this is happening I don't know, but I am not sure I can read through another book to potentially find out. This was a big disappointment. If this is the first book by this author you have read and you didn't enjoy it try some of her other works. They have all been so much better than this one.

King of Hearts (Hearts #3) by L.H. Cosway

Kind of Heart
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Goodreads
Synopsis:

Welcome to the City, London’s most prestigious square mile, where finance reigns and Oliver King is a rising prince.

I used to rule the world.

There might be wolves on Wall Street, but there were crocodiles in Canary Wharf. Some of us craved money. Some of us craved power.

I liked money, and power had its advantages, but what I really wanted was to excel, to surpass the men who came before me. I never cared much for love and romance until I met Alexis.

I could feel it the very moment she walked into the interview, with her outspoken charm and vivacious personality. She cast all the others in shadow, made me laugh when life held no humour. Our friendship should have remained professional, but it wasn’t long before the lines started to blur.

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men? Well, I never foresaw where my plans would lead, and only in my darkest hour did I finally see the light…

You can have all the money and prestige in the world and still be the poorest man alive. And love, well, I hate to use a tired old cliché, but love can be the thing that truly sets you free.

Review:

I'm really loving this Hearts series by L.H. Cosway. Every character is so different yet fits into the same world. It is really remarkable.

King of Hearts is the story of Oliver and Alexis. If you have read Hearts of Fire then you have been introduced to Oliver King already. King of Hearts starts off before that book and tells what happens. The first part of this story, the before, was a good read. You get to see Alexis and King fall in love even though they try not to. You get to see how lovely they are together and how there is just a connection that is so strong between them. They were fun to get to know, but you know something is coming. Something that won't be that good for them overall.

The second part, after, is where I think the story really became amazing. Up until then it was just a lovely love story, but after? That is where you get into the meat of it all. The heart and soul of the story. The parts that make you cry for the characters and cheer them on at the same time. Oliver has some demons, some issues that he never really thought of as issues before. When things went bad they went really bad, but luckily he found himself in the company of some amazing people who help him so much. And Alexis? She is so strong. I love how she is so independent, she can survive on her own, but she just wants to be with Oliver. She loves him so much and it was beautiful. I liked the before story, but I loved the after story. When things fall apart what do you do? How do you bring someone back that is so far gone? Oliver is a unique character and I don't know that I have read anyone quite like him. All of these people Cosway created in this series have been much different from most. I love it.

Her Backup Boyfriend
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Goodreads

Synopsis:

One little white lie leads to more than she planned…

Straight-laced lawyer Kate Matthews always plays by the rules. But when her ex gets engaged and a big promotion is on the line at work, she blurts out that she has a new boyfriend. And now that she’s proved she “has a life” outside of work, everything is perfect. Except for one teeny little detail—there is no boyfriend. And now Kate’s liable for her little white lie…

Dominic Sorensen is hot, charming, and very definitely not Kate’s type. But not only does Dominic want to help Kate renovate her home, he’s also willing to play “boyfriend.” All he wants in return is a little pro bono work for his sister. Now instead of Mr. Right, Kate has a delectable Mr. Fix-It-Right—and some unbelievable sexual chemistry. And if falling for Dominic is a breach of contract, Kate is guilty as charged…

Review:

Her Backup Boyfriend was a cute read. Light and fun and enjoyable. Kate and Dominic were really cute together.

Kate is a lawyer who always plays by the rules. She still works with her ex, the guy she thought she would marry one day, and it is tough. Especially since he is now engaged to the gorgeous new lawyer at the firm. She is in line for a promotion, something she has been working her whole career for, the next step in her grand plan, only she needs a significant other. When the position is dangled in from of her she snaps and say she has a boyfriend. Only she doesn't. Not really.

Dominic is super sweet. Hot, nice, charming, everything you could want in a guy. He works for his father's construction business, but his real passion is restoration. He was going to school for architecture, but when his family needed him he dropped everything to be there for them. Only in doing so he lost his girlfriend as that was not the life she has envisioned. It put him off women a bit, but when he meets Kate there is a small spark. She is so straight laced and he thinks what would it be like to get her to loosen up a little bit?

When Kate needs some renovation work done, Dominic is her guy. Things just fall into place and when he finds out she needs a boyfriend for her firm events they figure out this will be perfect! He needs someone to help his sister with a messy divorce, but the sister won't take handouts. Only if Kate pretends to be his girlfriend then offer her legal services maybe she will take it and everyone wins. Dominic's sister gets help, Kate gets her promotion, everything should be wonderful.

Of course through all of this pretend dating they really fall for each other. Kate always thought she wanted her ex back, but now that things are heating up with Dominic does she really want that? Plus when things at work get a bit tricky she has some big decisions to make. These two were really cute together. They have some ups and downs, but it was a light, fun read.

Trade Me (Cyclone #1) by Courtney Milan

Trade Me
Available on
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Barnes & Noble * Goodreads

Synopsis:

Tina Chen just wants a degree and a job, so her parents never have to worry about making rent again. She has no time for Blake Reynolds, the sexy billionaire who stands to inherit Cyclone Technology. But when he makes an off-hand comment about what it means to be poor, she loses her cool and tells him he couldn’t last a month living her life.

To her shock, Blake offers her a trade: She’ll get his income, his house, his car. In exchange, he’ll work her hours and send money home to her family. No expectations; no future obligations.

But before long, they’re trading not just lives, but secrets, kisses, and heated nights together. No expectations might break Tina’s heart...but Blake’s secrets could ruin her life.

Review:

Trade Me was such a fun read. Blake and Tina are so cute together and they both have some issues to deal with before then can reach their happily ever after, but they were awesome.

Tina is a poor college kid at a rich school. Her classmates don't know what it is like to not have money. They don't know what it is like to have to survive on $10 for food for the foreseeable future. They don't know what it is like to have to send $30 home every month so her sister can get her medication and how that $30 is the world to her. How an extra $10 is just not there. She doesn't have it. She survives, but she knows what it is like to be cold, to eat rice for dinner, to not have much. She loves her family, but she seems to be the only responsible one in her family. Her sister is too young and her mother spends her time helping other Chinese families work their way through the immigration process. They escaped China when they would be persecuted for what they practice, but they have made a life in the US. A life that Tina is hoping to be able to help with once she becomes a doctor. She always plays it safe, she is always careful, and she knows as a doctor she can make enough money to support her family. And that is all that she wants.

Blake is a rich kid. Or the rich kid on campus. Everyone knows who he is as his father is the head of a very famous company. Everyone knows that he will be taking over at some point so everyone tries to get close to him. Although he has a problem. He doesn't think he can. Ever since his father's CFO and friend died he just doesn't think he can do it. He is in college as a way to escape for a bit, to try and figure out and fix his problem before he has to go back. His father doesn't know and keeps pressuring him to come back, to work more, to forget about college.

When the class that Tina and Blake share starts talking about public assistance, when the people in class start talking about how everyone on it is lazy and such, Tina can't just sit there and take it. She sounds off and I loved it! She is so feisty and wonderful. She might be poor, but she can take on anyone if she needs to, even Blake. Oh it was fun. That first time they had a conversation I loved it!

When Blake realizes that he doesn't know what it is like to be poor, that Tina challenged him with the fact that he wouldn't last two weeks living as she does, Blake thinks this is it! He can switch lives with her and maybe this will fix him. Maybe if he sees what it is like to live as she does then he will be okay to go back and work at his fathers company. Tina is super smart and can easily take over some of his obligations with said company and they can work together on anything she can't. Plus he can give her an allowance which would really help her out. Things could be a bit easier for her in the future. She wouldn't have to work while going to school, she would have a bit extra to send to her parents, the "little" amount he will give her is huge to her. She has reservation, but of course she has to take the deal. It is just too good to pass up.

When one of the terms is that she has to pretend to be his girlfriend oh it became so much fun! The both of them are attracted to the other, but Tina being Tina doesn't want anything to happen. She needs to play it safe and dating Blake for real is not safe. Oh I loved it. They were so cute. They were there for each other and helped each other so much while growing closer. It was great.

Though I loved Tina and Blake together my absolutely favorite part of the book was Blake and his father's relationship. Oh my goodness I loved them! They love each other, though to an outsider it might not seem like it at all times. They call each other names and swear at each other, but it is a form of endearment. It was so so fun to read. Most people do not talk back or stand up to Blake's father, but Tina? Oh she won't have any of his nonsense. She won't stand for him slighting Blake or trying to pull one over on her. Their first meeting, the father and Tina? I laughed so hard. She is a spitfire and can give as good as she gets. It was wonderful and I loved seeing the three of them together. These characters were fantastic and it is not often when a father son relationship trumps the main couple in a story for me. I couldn't help but love Blake even more because of how he is with his dad. A really wonderful read.

Excerpt:

Fighting Silence

Prologue

He didn’t budge, but my bare feet slipped, sending me toward the ground. Impossibly fast, Till’s hand snaked out and caught my arm. But I didn’t let his chivalrous gesture douse my fire. I had six months’ worth of words to say to the man I was irrevocably in love with.

“You took what you wanted. Then you left me.”

“Doodle,” he whispered. I had been perilously close to the edge of insanity, and with one single word, he’d pushed me over.

I lost it completely.

Pounding my fists against his chest, I screamed at the top of my lungs, “It’s Eliza! My name is fucking Eliza! Not Doodle!” I spun to march away, but Till’s arms folded around me, lifting me off my feet to restrain me.

I was miniscule compared to him. There was no use in fighting, but I still kicked my legs, irrationally desperate to get away from him—but only because I knew I couldn’t keep him for forever.

“Stop it!” he growled into my ear. “I know your goddamned name—probably better than I know my own.”

While I was wrapped in Till’s strong arms, six months’ worth of tears fell from my eyes. He carried me to my apartment and guided me back through the window before following me inside. Then he stripped out of his bloodsoaked shirt before dragging the blankets down and climbing into the bed behind me. I cried for a while in his arms, even turning to face him, only to cry against his chest. I had missed him so much.

I knew I’d loved Till years ago, but this was more. I needed him in order to function on a very basic level. Together, the world didn’t feel so big and overwhelming. He was my escape—the dream personified.

Till Page was comfortable.

His hands trailed up and down my back as he lulled me until the words fought their way out.

“I couldn’t stop going back,” I announced in a broken whisper. “I didn’t know where you had gone. And for the first time since I was thirteen, I was alone inside my own head. God. It was a scary place.” I tried to joke, but the tears streaming down my face told the truth.

“I’m sorry,” he responded on a sigh. “I couldn’t stay.”

“Why?” I whined, but I curled in closer against his chest, needing to feel him more than anything else.

“I don’t know, Doodle,” he lied.

God! It was such a fucking lie. He knew as well as I did. He just didn’t want to tell me.

“Where did you go?” I pressed further. There was no way I ever could have expected his answer, but that wasn’t because it was a novel thought. No. His answer was surprising because it was the source of my anguish too.

“The real world.” He kissed my forehead.

Sales banner
With a Twist
Available now for only $0.99 on
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Goodreads

Synopsis:

Love is somewhere near the bottom of Lily Thomas’ list of life goals, right next to competitive eating and underwater cave diving. She’s spent six years pirouetting and pliéing her way up the ranks of the New York Ballet with her eye on the prize and love in the back seat. But now that Blane Baker -- Lily’s long time crush -- is finally single, she’ll throw her rules out the window without thinking twice.

Reality with Blane isn’t as epic as the fantasy she imagined, and the truth sends her spinning straight into the arms of the man she never knew she’d always wanted.

West Williams has been friends with Lily since the day she moved into their building and he saved her armoire from a swift, sudden death by staircase. Their friendship has always been easy, the boundaries clearly defined. With neither of them willing to risk their relationship, they’ve drifted happily through the years as companions, never considering more.

That is, until they do. And that realization changes everything.

With a Twist is a standalone romantic comedy.

About the Author:

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.

Rath's Trial (Janus Group #4) by Piers Platt

Rath's Trial
Now Available on
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Goodreads

Synopsis:

Rath thought that defeating the Janus Group and stealing back his hard-earned fortune might help ease his guilty conscience. But when he returns to the planet Scapa to find the woman he loves, his past crimes finally catch up to him. And the police aren't Rath's only concern: someone's put a price on his head. Rath will need to figure out who his new enemy is if he wants to stay alive. His old friend Beauceron can't help him - especially not when Rath's former colleague, Paisen Oryx, is the primary suspect in the detective's latest investigation. The three former allies each work to unravel the truth in a growing conspiracy ... but will fate bring them together as friends, or enemies?

Review:

These Janus Group books are so much fun to read. Definitely some of my favorite stories. I read the original trilogy and loved every minute of it so when I saw the author was writing another in the same world I was very excited. I mean getting to see these characters in action once again? Yes please! Please note that this is not a standalone book. Even though it is the start of a new trilogy of books, it is set in the same world with the same characters as the first three. You should read the first three prior to this one. Well you should read all of them regardless, but this was you will be up to speed when you jump into this story.

Rath's Trial picks up after the events of the last book. In the last series you had Rath and Paisen and others working to take down the corrupt Janus group. They worked for the Janus group, but it was not all sunshine and roses or really what they expected. Yes, they did things they probably shouldn't have, namely killed people, but in the end they did try and right some of their wrongs. Rath in particular has a hard time with all of it. He can't forget anything and he does feel guilty for the part he played in the whole thing, though taking them down helped a bit. Now he wants to go back and see a lady he really cared about, but lied to as she was part of a job for him. He wants to see if he can possibly rekindle what they had now that he is no longer an assassin.

Through this story you see how each of these characters are dealing with the aftermath of what happened in the last stories. Rath is trying to make amends, but ends up arrested. He doesn't even really fight it as he knows what he did, but he also doesn't want to die. That and he has a new enemy who is after him for reasons that he does not know. So he has to try and figure out who is after him and why all while not getting the death penalty for killing so many people previously.

Paisen is working to try and use her skills for good, or better, reasons. She has put together a team of highly skilled fighters, though there is to be no more killing. Beauceron is trying to figure out his life now that he is a high profile and I know he has a job to do, but I didn't like him as much in this story. I mean he knows Rath and Paisen!

You also get to know Dasi more. She is trying to figure out how she can be helpful again. She needs a new way to make a difference after everything that happened and I am curious to see where her path with take her. Through this all, through everyone doing their thing, you have some new characters introduced and a whole lot of questions. Who are these people? Are they good or bad? It is not always clear and it will be interesting to see where everyone ends up. Will they all be on the same side fighting against the bad guys? Or will it be more complicated with the bad guys not really as obvious as they were? Will they end up fighting each other for what they think is right? We shall see. I can't wait for the next book so I can read more!

Review:

Oh man, Warped was an amazing read. Seriously. You should all go get this book and read it on release day. Or, for those who are new to Emma James, read Wrenched now so you are good to go next week. I should note that Warped is the second book in a series and is NOT a standalone. You have to have read Wrenched prior to this book or you will be lost. For reals. Now onto the review.

Warped. Man, what a crazy ride this book is. I enjoy all of the authors work, but Warped really blew me away. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was just wanting to get through it as quickly as possible because I need to see what happens, but also wanted to savor it and make it last longer. It was so good. Emma really created a wonderfully twisted world that I can't get enough of! I am eager for more. I need to see how everything works itself out. And let me tell you it is probably not going to be pretty when it is all said and done, but hopefully the bad guys get what's coming to them. Such a great read.

I will say I normally don't read motorcycle club books. If you look you will see they are not something I enjoy. But Warped? Yes, Edge is part of a MC, but this doesn't read like a normal MC book which is why it works for me. It is not just about him and the club. There is a storyline there, other things that happen, and the club is just part of who he is.

Now this book picks up where the first left off. Whisper, Edge, Miss Catherine and the whole gang are caught up in this giant, nasty web. I love how there are so many players, so many people you get to know and root for or against, so much fun to read. Whisper is not in a good way and has no real hope of being in a good place anytime soon. She can only hope she stays strong and her family can find her wherever she is. She has been dealt more than her fair share of hardships in life, but she is still kicking. I really don't think anyone will get this girl down. She is a fighter and now she has something to fight for so it is game on.

Really no one is in good shape when this book starts off. Edge has some problems that keep him from doing what he needs to do. I loved watching him try to figure out what is going on, try to fight the demons from his past and get everything straightened out. He is one person I would not want to mess with, but man he is fun to read. He will stop at nothing to get Whisper back and oh his story...yeah. I can't wait to read more and see what he does next. Amazing. The other boys? Linc and Boxer? Ah I don't want to spoil anything but this author is an evil genius when it comes to her storyline. The twists and turns, the people who are involved and all the things you find out? Amazing. This story definitely didn't hold back and kept me wanting more.

Oh and don't forget about Miss Catherine. Whisper was very fortunate to have found her and dem bones. Plus she is not as fragile as she looks. Through it all, all the dark and twisted places this story goes, you are left rooting for these characters. I don't want bad things to happen to any of them (except the ones who obviously deserve it), but sometimes things get worse before they can get better. You definitely want to get this book when it comes out. You won't be disappointed.

Sugar Daddies by Jade West

Now available on

Synopsis:

A sugar daddy website doesn’t seem a sound basis for an A1 life plan, but I’m a small town girl with big dreams, and there’s this one advert, this one crazy advert I can’t stop thinking about…

Two hot guys seeking their Little Miss Right. Someone who can entertain them, amuse them, fit in with their corporate schedule. And sex. They want sex. Lots of sex. Bonus, right? One major dose of epic win.

Of course, guys like Carl and Rick have their conditions. One being that they come together, or not at all. Hell, I can live with that.

And there are no skeletons in their designer closet, none that I can find. Just two hot sugar daddies, with particular tastes, nothing to worry about.

Until Carl and Rick spill the big one, the one that sends the girls running. A whole string of them before me, running to the hills without so much as a backward glance.

Maybe I should run, too. Thanks but no thanks, see you around, guys, nice knowing you. But I’m already in way too deep for that.

Warning – as with every other Jade West book, reader discretion is highly advised. This novel contains vivid depictions of MMF / MM relationships, and Jade’s characters, as always, have very filthy mouths. Mature readers only, please.

Review:

Phew can Jade West write a story. Not only are her books freakin hot as anything she has an amazing story to back them up with. I love them and I love her! They are simply amazing!

Sugar Daddies is the story of two guys in a committed, loving relationship who are looking to add a third. To add a girl to their lives. Now this is something that I think is pretty hot, MMF sexy time, but to have a real story with three people in a relationship? Prior to reading this I would have said eh, it probably won't be something I really want to read. But somehow Jade manages to make these characters that you fall in love with, that you believe care so much for each other and it really works. I will admit I went into this book a bit skeptical, but hopeful since I have loved everything else I have read by the author, and I was not let down with the story. It is crazy how good the story is and how normal a threesome relationship was. I loved it.

Carl and Rick are two guys in love. They are both bi and don't have the most traditional of lives. I loved them both. Rick is this artsy free spirit type, laid back and quick to laugh, which Carl comes across as more serious. He can be super intimidating when you first meet him, but he is so kind and caring it is wonderful. They are both so different but you can see how much they care about each other. I loved getting to know them both and what makes them tick.

Katie is a small town girl just trying to get some money together to live her dreams. She doesn't dream really big, just big enough for her and her horse Samson. She has some difficulties with her family and it is not all sunshine and roses, but she is happy enough. To try and finance her dream she signs up for Sugar Daddies and that is where she meets Carl and Rick. Oh this book was fun. Katie was awesome. Right from the start she is drawn to both of them in different ways. I really enjoyed watching the three of them come together. And the sexy time? Oh goodness gracious was that hot. The three of them together? LOVED it. Every minute of it. But it was more than that. It was the story of these people. I feel like I got to know Carl a bit more than Rick, but oh I loved them all. Carl is so sweet and when he cares he would do anything for you. He is always straightforward and doesn't beat around the bush and I loved that about him. Even if he knows it is hard or might hurt in the short term he still does what he thinks is right. Oh my heart broke for him at times. There are lots of ups and downs with this story as you watch all of their relationships evolve and them try and figure everything out, but it was a wonderful ride.

You know from the beginning that Carl has something he wants that has sent all prior girls running. Both he and Rick are hopeful that Katie will be the one for them and I just loved this book to pieces. It was fairly obvious what his secret would be, but it didn't take away from the story. All of the relationships were so well done and with a lesser author might have come off as cheesy, but not here. Katie and her family in particular. She has a lot going on with that, but Carl and Rick are always there for her trying to help make things better. I loved this story. It was hot and sweet and fun and charming and everything I would have wanted in a story. I am so glad Jade wrote this story of a different kind of love. Honestly I don't know of any other stories quite like this one. It was different, but so wonderful and really reinforces that love is love. Love who you want and be happy. Wonderful read.

About the Author:
Jade has increasingly less to say about herself as time goes on, other than the fact she is an author, but she’s happy with this fact.

Living in imaginary realities and having a legitimate excuse for it is really all she’s ever wanted.

Jade is as dirty as you’d expect from her novels, and talking smut makes her smile.

She lives in the Herefordshire countryside with a couple of hounds and a guy who’s able to cope with her inherent weirdness.

She has a red living room, decorated with far more zebra print than most people could bear and fights a constant battle with her addiction to Coca-Cola.

Beneath This Mask (Beneath #1) by Meghan March

22458416
Available on
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Barnes & Noble * Goodreads

Synopsis:

He loves me, and he doesn’t even know my real name.

The limelight that follows him could expose everything I’m hiding. But even knowing the risks, I can’t force myself to stay away.

I’m going to break his heart, but mine will shatter right along with it.

Will we lose it all when I reveal what’s beneath this mask?

Review:

Beneath This Mask was a better read than I was expecting. The synopsis just sounded okay to me, but I really was drawn into the story right from the start. Yes, Charlie could be annoying at times, but she was written in such a way that I still liked her and enjoyed her story.

Charlie is hiding from her past. Her father is in jail for fraud and the FBI is looking for her as they think she might know something. Instead of sticking around she ran. She changed her name, tries to make sure people don't get too close to her and hopes no one will find her. She is now working at a tattoo parlor and has some ink herself. Really she changed her look so much in the hopes that no one will realize who she is. Plus she likes the tattoos and such. She feels like she can't tell anyone who she is or be in the spotlight at all as her father messed everything up.

Simon is the son of congressman and just starting his own political career. He is ex-military and still has a few issues there that he doesn't want anyone to know about. I really enjoyed reading him. He is such a great guy. He likes Charlie, wants to get to know her and see where it will lead, but Charlie knows she should stay away. It would be in his best interest if they didn't start anything, but she also doesn't want to stay away. She has been hiding for so long and he is so sweet. When she offers him one night he refuses. Sure he wants her, but he wants more than that. He was a really great guy and perfect for Charlie.

The two of them have a lot of secrets between them, but Simon is not one to give up easily. He knows Charlie is keeping stuff from him, but that doesn't stop him from falling for her. He was such a sweetheart and really dealt with her ups and downs well. She is just afraid of letting him in and what will happen when he finds out who she really is. She doesn't want him to leave her which he very well could do if he ever found out her secrets. She is still running even if she is standing still. Eventually she has to decide if it is worth it, if Simon is worth it, and if she is ready to really trust him.

I will say I really enjoyed this story especially what happened when her identity is revealed. This was not the simple everything is okay, no worries, nothing happens story. It felt more realistic even if because of circumstances it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Charlie is not always the smartest and I liked that she struggled a bit and had to learn from her mistakes. It was a really great read and I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Release Day: Live Wire (Titan #9) by Cristin Harber

Available exclusively on ibooks

Synopsis:

Titan Group is expanding! New recruits mean Jared Westin has potential new hires to scrutinize. What he didn’t expect was his very pregnant wife Sugar to finagle her way onto the surveillance team as the prospects were assessed.

Her involvement in the simple observation goes dangerously wrong. She and best friend Lexi Black stumble into a problem with Russian mobsters. Sugar is forced to draw on her old ATF tricks, but weeks from her due date, she has no choice but to team up with Bishop O’Kane, a potential-new recruit and Parker Black, Lexi’s hacker husband, who must go undercover.

This is special ops novella is packed with high-stakes crime and intrigue, a baby story for Boss Man, and two steamy romances for two of Titan’s favorite couples!

Excerpt:

The rhythmic pounding of the man running for his life in between Sugar’s and  Lexi’s treadmills was more than enough up-close proof that Bishop O’Kane was as  physically fit as his profile said. This gym catered to professional bodybuilders but was  empty with the exception of one other person and staff. It was elite and niche, and Sugar had basically used her pregnant stomach and her hormones to get them a day pass.

Not exactly Titan-level detective work, but this was more a girl’s trip than anything else… right? Her phone buzzed as she and Lexi walked lazily on either side of their unknowing target.

Lexi: What have we learned? I’m bored.

Sugar: I was bored at home. This was something to do.

Lexi: Right.

Lexi: I think he knows we know each other.

Lexi: Shoot! He’s looking at both of us.

Lexi: SUGAR!

Sugar got off her treadmill and walked calmly to the bathroom. The second she  was out of sight, she pulled her phone back out.

Sugar: Do I have to teach you how to creep up on a dude!?!?

Lexi: Maybe…

She tittered to herself. Well, that was probably true. For as hot as Lexi was, she  was clueless when it came to the art of flirting. Though they weren’t flirting. But still, spying on a guy took a certain level of finesse that Lexi didn’t have.

Sugar: We need a new game plan.

Sugar: Does he still look suspicious of us?

Sugar: Hello?

Sugar: Hey, Thelma, it’s Louise. Why’d you go radio silent?

Lexi: We have a problem

Sugar: On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is we need to hit the pancake house again, and 10 is I have to hit up GUNS for the ammo Jared wouldn’t let me have, gimme a number.

She grabbed her bag from a locker and wrestled out of her exercise pants and back into leather pants, which—thank the Lord for maternity adaptation—were more comfortable.

Sugar’s screen blinked with the text.

Lexi: 10. 10. 10.

Sugar: Easy, killer. On my way.

But the text wouldn’t send. The little circle kept circling. No signal. Ugh. What the hell? She pushed out the door to find the hallway dark. A tickle of adrenaline crept up her neck, and she slowed her pace.

“Hello?” A Russian accent called into the bathroom where she had just been.

Training and instinct made Sugar drop to the floor, listening to the voice continue to call and the person go in and out of the locker rooms and whatever rooms were down the other hallway.

Her pulse picked up. She could feel the blood thumping in her neck and in her stomach, which was a change from the norm. But all in all, this was no different than creeping like a shadow on any other job. Except she didn’t know who or what she was dealing with, and she had to hide what felt like an additional few feet of her stomach from view while trying to figure out what the double deuces was happening.

She tried her cell phone again. Shoot. She got nothing but a spinning circle and a no service signal. Clearly, somewhere in the building was a cell-phone jammer, which meant this was more of a professional job than a slam-and- bam robbery.

Okay… what to do?

Slinking down the hallway, she heard no exercise equipment clinking and clanking. No men throwing heavy things. No people grunting as they lifted heavy objects for personal enjoyment. There was only the empty blare of music that, now that all was abandoned and quiet, played far too loud. Her phone continued to cycle without a signal, and Sugar’s eyes searched for signs of anyone in the building—most importantly, Lexi. And where had that searching Russian man gone? She needed a weapon. Fast.

She checked her phone again.

Nope. The hell with it. She tucked it in her back pocket. Across the open floor were hand weights. She could grab a few jump ropes or one of the calisthenics bars while she was there. But crossing the gym was too dangerous. With a view of nothing but treadmills, elliptical machines, and stair climbers, she had nothing but magazines to smack a bad dude with. Nothing deadly.

So the plan for the moment was to keep against the wall and head for the main desk. Surely there was a pair of scissors. A stapler. Hell, she could be deadly with a phone cord. All she needed was the right angle. But really, Sugar stressed about Lexi.

She crept around another corner of the main gym. No one was there.

No Lexi. No Bishop. No random meatheads. No guy with a Russian accent searching for rogue people hiding and creeping.

“What is going on?” Her pulse pounded in her neck, and confusion covered every thought. Only Emergency Exit signs illuminated the room, and the place was eerie. Her quiet question went unanswered, and the baby took that moment to kick.

“Easy, tater tot. I’ve got this.”

Something Real (Reckless & Real #2) by Lexi Ryan

Something Real
Available on
Amazon.com * Amazon.de * Goodreads

Synopsis:

After everything blew up on Christmas, Liz walked away from me, and I let her. She said she needed space and a chance to pursue her dreams. But we both knew she was running from the mess she made. Now the political campaign she used as an excuse to leave is bringing us back together and I’m proving to her what she really needs—not just the hot nights, greedy hands, and undeniable physical chemistry. What she really needs is something real. What she really needs…is me.

Review:

Note: Something Real is a continuation of the story started in Something Reckless. You definitely should have read that book before starting this one or you will not know what is going on. Spoilers for book one ahead!

Something Real starts up right where Something Reckless left off, then jumps forward a bit to see the outcome of everything. Liz runs away when she realizes it was Sam's dad she was talking to and she feels horrible. She blames herself and she is the one who made such a mess of everything. And Sam blames her as well. At least at first. I understand Sam being upset, but I don't really know why anyone things Liz did anything wrong. She stopped what she was doing as soon as she realized it wasn't Sam she was talking to. She didn't do anything except not tell Sam that before they got together she talked to someone online. No big deal really, only it turns out it kind of is when they find out who it was, but still. So Liz and Sam are not together as he can't seem to get it together and go apologize to her. They are both miserable, but then a whole bunch of drama lands in their laps and ack!

Normally I don't like super drama for no reason stories. I knew from the start what was going on and who was behind everything, but I still really enjoyed reading this story. Liz and Sam have so many issues, so many things going on that they have to try and work through, and they still don't talk to each other. Liz keeps getting hurt, but keeps not giving up on Sam. And Sam is a bit dense at times. He doesn't see that what is happening hurts Liz no matter how much his intentions are good. He wants to try and help everyone, but he really should have called things off much sooner. Liz is an incredible person to be able to be hurt so much and yet still come back to try and work things out with Sam. There is a super connection between these two that I don't think anything could break. Not other people, not outside circumstances, nothing. I think that is why I didn't mind the drama as much. I loved the couple so much that the drama was fun instead of annoying.

The one thing that was a bit disappointing was the ending. The big take down of the "bad guys." I wanted a bit more from that instead of what felt like an easy out. Still fun and I would recommend this series.

How can she fight the need to soothe him even if she knows she’s liable to get hurt once again?

Is it possible for June and Evan to find their way back to each other again? Or will they be stopped by an outside force before they ever have a shot?

Review:

Alright. Until June. I don't know what happened with this book. Normally I am a huge Aurora Rose Reynolds fan, but this story was kind of a mess. Nothing was developed, everything happened too instantly, I didn't understand why the characters did what they did, it just didn't work for me. Really I kept looking to see is this really the same author? If I hadn't known it was I would never have guessed because it was just not that good. Sad, but I suppose everyone can have an off story for me.

So Until June. June and Evan used to be married, but no one knew. They got married right before he went off to boot camp and they knew it would be hard, but June would wait for him forever. Only she gets served with divorce papers while he is overseas with no word as to why. Now he is back and working with her brother to help protect her (even though she thinks that is a bit much). Here is where the story gets to be a mess for me. I didn't understand any of the characters. Why did Evan divorce her? I'm not 100% sure. Yeah I know the vague reason he said, but it was just that - vague. I kept waiting to find out more, to see why he did it. He never felt like he was good enough for her, but...what changed so much to make him quit trying? I can assume based on other books/people I know in his situation, but I don't feel like I really knew him at all to say for sure.

And June? She is all I won't let him in again! I can't! What if he leaves again? Oh hey it has been two seconds, I love him and we will be together forever! She takes him back way too quickly and I don't know why. She just does. I didn't see this crazy connection between them or anything, but I guess it is supposed to be there. There was no transition so it didn't make sense to me.

Then there were two added subplots that didn't really serve much of a purpose. One was June's ex, which fine he was why she needed protection in the beginning and the catalyst to get Evan and her together again, but after that nothing really happened. He would pop up ever now and again to add another scene, but it didn't really add to the story overall. And then the guy at Evan's MC that is bad news and was just suddenly resolved at the end without much detail. Afterwards I kept thinking why was this even added? It wasn't developed so it was a good addition to the story, it was just there.  This story was missing all of the things that make the authors stories great. I didn't even think Evan was an awesome alpha guy in bed so it all just fell flat for me on all fronts. Oh well, hopefully the next one will be better.

Review:

Oh my goodness. I just finished reading Something Reckless and wow. I usually try and write reviews for series where the story is a continuation of the same story before I read the next book and I have to get this written so I can go on and see what happens next! Wow that ending...not quite what I was expecting and I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but woah. Yeah. I need a minute to process.

This is the story of Sam and Liz. They are amazing together. You can see the connection between them. Even before they really get together you know there is something more than just sex with them. You can see how much each of them cares for the other, but the whole way through the book I keep yelling in my head for them to actually have a conversation. Just talk to each other and you guys can work everything out! Use your words! Especially Liz. She didn't want to tell Sam about anything, worried that he would hate her though why he would I am not sure. I mean she didn't do anything wrong, the situation is just a little messed up. She thought she was doing everything right and wanted everything to be perfect. Especially now that things might be working out with Sam whom she has liked forever. Who she threw herself at when she was too young and he didn't take advantage of her. Who she slept with a few years ago, but then thought she saw something and instead of talking pushed him away. Who has always had a thing for and who she can't seem to shake.

And Sam? Oh he has always liked Liz. He never thought he was good enough for her or could do an actual relationship, but for her he wanted to try. For her he would do anything. Only 14 months ago something happened that broke his heart, something that made him feel like he should hate her, but he can't. He still wants her even if it is not possible.

These two are really great with all the tension between them. They are so hot together, they just work, but they do need to learn to actually talk to each other. Sam still has some secrets that I am sure Liz is not going to respond well to. Plus Liz needs to stop running and pushing Sam away as a preemptive measure so that he won't hurt her. The first half of this book was kind of light and fun and hot, but then the drama came and it was a whirlwind that I kind of loved. Normally all this drama would put me off, but really I just want to read more. So there you have it. Sam and Liz = together forever, everyone else keeps trying to mess that up, and there are a few surprises along the way. I must say I don't like Connor or Della at all. Well maybe Connor a bit more, but he is still not my favorite person. I don't know why Liz always sees the best in him. Most of Sam's family and "friends" are really not good people. We shall see what happens next. I can't wait to see them get their happily ever after (and hopefully take a few people down!)
