Sweet Peril (Sweet Evil Trilogy #2) by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Peril

Synopsis:

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Review:

Man Anna and Kai are so hot together! I can't wait for this to be over and them to get married so they can totally not have to hold back with each other anymore! It is refreshing to have a story where the girl really wants/needs to wait to have sex. In Anna's case she has to or she might not be able to use the sword of righteousness, which if I really think about it is a bit much, but I just like having a heroine who is waiting to have sex. Even before the sword stuff she said she wanted to wait until she was married. You can see how hard it is for both of them to try and not go too far.

The first part of this book is Kai still trying to push Anna away. He keeps trying to tell her he doesn't care, tells everyone he doesn't care, and tries to push her towards Kopano. Kai is actually insecure when it comes to Anna, which was kind of sweet to read. He has never had someone he loves before and he doesn't really think he is worthy of her. I mean she is so good and pure and hates the work that she has to at least act like she is doing, and he has been so bad, done terrible things and just thinks she is way too good for him. They do have some ups and downs and Anna does try to move on, but she really can't. No one is Kai so...It was hard reading how hurt Anna was by Kai, even though Kai was doing it to try and protect her. I was glad that Anna really couldn't move on. I am glad that she didn't just jump to Kope since Kai kept pushing her away. I am glad there wasn't really a love triangle. Once she gets it, once she understands what is really at stake and how easy it would be to get carried away and not be careful, oh you just hurt for her. There is more of a happy ending though, at least in regards to the two of them. The end itself isn't that sunshine and roses, but it is hopeful and it is setting it up nicely for an amazing third book! I can't wait to get started reading it so this review will be short and sweet.

Most of this book is Anna and Kope traveling the world trying to find fellow Neph who will fight with them against their evil fathers. Finding allies and trying to stay under the radar so no one knows there will be an uprising. You meet some new characters and of course get some more Kai and Anna! They are so hot together! I just can't get enough of them. I don't even really care about anything else, I just want Anna and Kai! The rest of the story is setting up hopefully an amazing end to the series. Amazing read, now to read the last book.
